Yungaburra is located in the heart of the
Atherton Tabelands or Cairns Highlands as it
is also known as, only 1 hour from Cairns.
The town is nestled in a pocket of open
rainforest and only minutes to many
outstanding and beautiful natural
attractions such as crater lakes, waterfalls
and world heritage rainforest. Yungaburra is
a popular escape for coastal residents from
the humidity of the coast and a must to
visit by both Australian and International
tourist.
Yungaburra has been shaped by volcanic
activity. The legacy is stunning surrounds
with rainforest, waterfalls, crater lakes
and green pastures.
Largely unchanged since 1910, wide verandahs
and historical shop fronts line the tranquil
streets. With 18 heritage listed buildings,
it is the largest National Trust village in
Queensland.

offer all manner of gastronomic delights.

shops. The famous Yungaburra markets are
held every fourth Saturday of the month.

such as the Jazz Festival, Swiss National
Day and Oktoberfest.
Yungaburra also has gorgeous wedding and
honeymoon venues to treat you on your
special day such as the
Yungaburra Wedding Chapel.

the wonderful natural attractions
surrounding Yungaburra, and to experience
the unique wildlife.
There are so many natural attractions in the
beautiful countryside surrounding
Yungaburra. The rolling green hills, crater
lakes, waterfalls, and lush rainforests and
pastures are a legacy of our volcanic
origins. Spend a few days exploring. There
are great walking tracks for the fit or not
so fit, lovely picnic spots, and drives with
fantastic views at every turn.
Lake Eacham (10 minute drive from
Yungaburra)
A superb volcanic crater lake with deep
emerald waters. Perfect for swimming and a
picnic on the grassy bank
Lake Barrine (15 minute drive from
Yungaburra)
The larger of the twin crater lakes, Lake
Barrine has been operating as a tourist
destination since the 1920's. Enjoy a lake
cruise and a devonshire tea at the Tea House
on the waters edge. Spot the sunbathing
pythons, eels, turtles, ducks and other
water birds.
Lake Tinaroo (20 minute drive from
Yungaburra)
Created by damming the Barron River in 1950
for the irrigation of agricultural areas,
Lake Tinaroo has also provided a huge water
sports and recreational area. Sailing,
waterskiing, canoeing and fishing are all
popular, and the 200km of shoreline is great
for picnicking and bushwalking.
Waterfall Circuit (35 minute drive from
Yungaburra)
Only minutes from Millaa Millaa is the
Waterfall Circuit drive that takes in 3
impressive waterfalls - the much
photographed Millaa Millaa Falls, Elinjaa
and Zillie Falls. Further down the highway
is the turnoff for the larger Mungalli
falls.
Mt Hypipamee National Park, the Crater,
Dinner Falls (45 minute drive from
Yungaburra) A short 400m walk through the
rainforest will bring you to the eerie
volcanic pipe crater, where granite walls
plunge 124m straight down to a water filled
crater. Further down is Dinner Falls, a
series of falls and slides down gleaming
black rocks
The Atherton Tablelands is a renowned
throughout the world as a birdwatcher's
paradise. Home to nearly half of Australia's
birds which means that the region harbours
more than 370 bird species, in a relatively
small area. A high proportion of these are
'endemic', found nowhere else in the world
The Atherton Tablelands region is home to

species - including unique green possums,
fierce marsupial cats, kangaroos which climb
